A tribute to Harold’s Express

by Wendy Flowers, president, SPHO of Maine

The SPHO of Maine held its annual meeting and banquet on Jan. 12, 2014. As the meeting portion of the event came to a close, founder Robyn Cuffey paid homage to Harold’s Express, a former SPHO-ME drill team Standardbred, who is celebrating his 30th birthday this year.

“Harold’s Express, owned by Carol Hill, turned 30 on Jan. 1. Harold held the track record for 2-year-old trotters at Scarborough Downs before having to retire due to an injury. Harold went on to be a great ambassador for the breed. He participated in many SPHO drill teams, performed in Fantasia at Equine Affaire, was unbeaten in under saddle racing, and toured the rich and famous through the carriage roads of Acadia. Harold is spending his retirement years with his best friend Thorpe, but he would still try to catch any horse in front of him if he had the chance. Go Harold!”

Thank you to David and Carol Hill for sharing the memories.

Long may you run Harold.
