Thomas Hicks named president of Florida USHWA

Pompano Beach, FL — Thomas H. Hicks of Pompano Beach was recently elected as the new president of the Florida chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association.

Thomas Hicks was recently elected as the new president of the Florida chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association.

Hicks, a prominent owner and breeder of Standardbreds for more than 40 years, had been a member of USHWA for the past four years. He covers the Monte America racing under saddle series for the trade websites and magazines and also writes daily for Harnesslink.com, covering the European harness racing scene.

Hicks has traveled extensively to Europe and has viewed the Prix d’Amerique classic race in Vincennes, Paris numerous times. He has also visited and raced at many of the tracks throughout North America.

He is the managing partner of Renaissance Partners, LLC of Pompano Beach and is the former executive director of the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association.

The new Vice President of the Florida USHWA chapter is Fred Segal. Re-elected to their positions were Kathleen Dempsey as Director/Secretary and John Berry as Treasurer.

The Chapter is beginning preparations for their annual Hall of Fame Awards dinner that will take place on Friday (March 7) at the Doubetree Hilton Hotel in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
