Unefoisdansmavie sets track record in Meadows trot

Washington, PA — Returning home to The Meadows after a respectable showing in the Breeders Crown, Unefoisdansmavie made short work of an accomplished field, capturing Wednesday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Trot in a track record of 1:53.

Unefoisdansmavie finished fourth to Maven in the final of the Breeders Crown Mare Trot, outperforming her 49-1 odds. Back at her stomping grounds, though, she was bet down to 6-5 and had to overcome a parked-out first quarter. She did just that, grabbing the lead at the three-eighths and prevailing for Dave Palone, three lengths better than the pocket-sitting Trotslikethewind, with Itsghostlyoutside third.

The time shaved a tick from the track record for older trotting mares that Unefoisdansmavie held jointly with Mystical Starlight and Perfect Chance.

Ron Burke trains the 6-year-old daughter of Revenue S-Peace To The World, who now boasts $351,317 in career earnings, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Jack Piatt III.

Palone and Burke each fashioned a four-bagger on the 15-race card while Greg Grismore and Aaron Merriman drove three winners apiece.

Dover Downs
Green Day, the second of three winners for Corey Callahan, showed his class by turning back eight rivals in 1:54.2 to win the $21,000 Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday at Dover Downs.
Callahan took the lead on the backstretch with Green Day, who rolled away to his fourth victory of the season and 42nd lifetime. The Enjoy Lavec-Sonoma Hanover 9-year-old gelding, trained by Leigh Raymer for Mary Elizabeth Raymer, extended his career bankroll to $1,281,114 with $60,556 this year. Cash On Delivery came on for Vince Copeland to finish second with Can Do and Vic Kirby third.

Batavia Downs
Winbak Your Kash ($10.00) made the trip to Western New York worth it as she scored a length victory over You’re Too Funny in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Open Pace on Wednesday night at Batavia Downs. Driven by North America’s leading dash winner, Ronnie Wrenn, Jr., the Vernon Downs invader went gate-to-wire in 1:56.2 to register the victory. Winbak Your Kash benefited by a :30 second quarter in getting to the half in :59.1. The 5-year-old mare (Artiscape-Lizbet Kash) then put up a blistering :57.1 final half to keep the remainder of the field at bay. You’re Too Funny (Jack Flanigen) rode the rail for second while Xenia Hanover (Shawn McDonough) finished in third. Winbak Your Kash is owned by Robert Siemski and is trained by Jessica Okusko. The win was Winbak Your Kash’s sixth of the season and improved her winnings to $37,311.

Northfield Park
Ken U Sing trotted home for his fifth straight win Wednesday in Northfield Park’s ninth race. The 6-year-old is owned and trained by Robert Coblentz. Robin Miller was aboard for the winning drive. Ken U Sing started from post two and made every pole a winning one, posting fractions of :29.3, 1:01, 1:30.3 and 2:00.3 over a sloppy surface. He maintained a four length margin of victory over his closest competitor, Ataway Aidan (Keith Kash, Jr,). Wednesday’s triumph was the seventh win in 11 starts this year for Ken U Sing (Ken Warkentin-Fa So La) and increased his lifetime earnings to $10,400. He was the favorite and returned $4.60 to win. Kaptain Mac Daddy was an upset winner in Northfield Park’s opening race on Wednesday. The 4-year-old trotter is owned by Ryan Holton and Jay Hoch. Trainer William Mt Pleasant called upon Jonas Hershberger to drive. Kaptain Mac Daddy (Jailhouse Jesse-Heavenly Scot) started from post eight and kicked from the back to win by a neck in 2:01.4. Wednesday’s victory was the first start in the Mt Pleasant barn and represents his sixth career win. Kaptain Mac Daddy (82-1) was followed across the wire by Moma Jean’s Crown (1-1) and Helookslikeahummer (11-1). Kaptain Mac Daddy returned $167.00 to win, the 8-5 exacta paid $607.80 and the 8-5-6 trifecta returned $3,446.80. November marks the return of Saturday live racing action at Northfield Park. Racing will convene five nights a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) with a 6:30 p.m. first race post time.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Shortest Distance (Park Place) continued her winning ways on Wednesday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway as the claiming pacer rattled off her second consecutive victory since dropping down to the $5,000 claiming level for pacing mares. Bruce Aldrich, Jr. piloted the mare to the convincing 1:56.2 score, besting the race’s favorite Canamerica who was the runner-up to Shortest Distance for the second straight time. The 8-year-old mare’s win was the 50th of her career as she continued a strong 2013 campaign that has seen her hit the wire first eight times. The Jose Godinez-trained mare will no doubt be one of the nominees for the Claiming Pacer of the Year for Fillies and Mares Award. Canamerica (Dan Cappello, Jr.) proved second best while Algebra (Joe Bongiorno) earned the show spot in the $4,385 pace.
