Joe Mowod injured in Meadows training mishap

by Evan Pattak, for the Meadows

Washington, PA — Joe Mowod, assistant trainer for Mike Palone, was injured in a training mishap Friday (Sept. 13) at The Meadows when a horse he was working for Palone became caught in its rigging and dumped Mowod to the track.

Mowod, who was conscious and alert following the incident, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for observation and treatment.

“Joe was in good spirits and moving around pretty well,” Palone said while driving to the hospital. “Because he was experiencing soreness in his neck, they wanted to fly him to the hospital and do some tests.”

The horse escaped injury.

The Meadows will provide updates as information becomes available.
