Campbellville, ON — A Rocknroll Dance and Clear Vision dueled stretch-long in the C$651,000 Canadian Pacing Derby, but the former was a touch better and took home the spoils in a stakes record 1:47.2 on Saturday (Aug. 31) at Mohawk. Foiled Again was third.

A Rocknroll Dance (#3) held off Clear Vision (#4) to win the Canadian Pacing Derby.

Tim Tetrick drove the 4-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover to the nose victory for trainer Jim Mulinix and the A Rocknroll Dance Stable of Ohio. The speed mark also equaled the Mohawk and Canadian record.

Soon after a clip of :26.2, set by Pet Rock, A Rocknroll Dance established command before a half in :53.4. He hooked up with Clear Vision (Brett Miller) and the two matched strides past three-quarters in a sizzling 1:20.4.

Down the stretch, Clear Vision and A Rocknroll Dance separated themselves from the field and continued dueling into deep stretch. In the end, A Rocknroll Dance got the better end, by a nose. Foiled Again, driven by Ron Pierce, finished third.

“It was very, very tight,” Tetrick said, in discussing the head-to-head battle with his rival. “He had me by a head, a good head, and my horse fought back and his horse never gave up. It was a nice race all the way to the wire.”

A Rocknroll Dance collected his 16th career win and now has nearly C$2.4 million in earnings.

“The Mulinix crew has got him on his toes and he feels good and he’s brave,” Tetrick continued. “He’s showing how good of a horse he really is in his last couple of starts.”

A Rocknroll Dance paid $6.70 to win.
