Freshman fillies at Tioga on Monday

by Nick Salvi, for Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — The long weekend of New York Sire Stakes events wraps up with a rare Monday evening card on July 29 at Tioga Downs.

A field of 24 talented 2-year-old pacing fillies split into three $36,378 divisions.

Race three is the first sire stakes race and Scandalicious is the 5-2 morning line choice. This American Ideal filly has two wins in the New York program already, including a 1:56.2 Yonkers score. Andrew McCarthy is in to drive for trainer Scott DiDomenico and owner JFE Enterprise, LLC.

The middle division features the Art Major lass JK Molly, who lowered the Tioga track record for her age and sex to 1:52.2 in last week’s Tompkins-Geers Grand Circuit stakes. She races out of the Linda Toscano barn with her go-to driver Tim Tetrick named. The 3 Brothers Stables own the fleet filly.

Ali Blue is offered a shot at redemption in the eighth race. She and her legion of fans, which sent her off at 15 cents on a dollar in the Tomkins-Geers, met with disappointment when she broke a hobble soon after the start and had to be pulled up by Yannick Gingras. Owners Christina Takter, John and Jim Fielding and RAW Equine, Inc. hope she returns to her previous perfect form for Gingras and trainer Jimmy Takter on Monday.

The supporting card features five divisions of Excelsior stakes for pacing fillies.

First post on Monday is 6:50 p.m. Visit the Tioga website for more details.
