East Rutherford, NJ — The Hambletonian, the world-famous trotting race, will remain at Meadowlands Racetrack through 2018.

The Hambletonian Society, the race sponsors, and the Meadowlands have extended the existing contract three additional years.

The Meadowlands has hosted the event since 1981 and the $1.2 million renewal takes place on August 3.

The Hambletonian, first contested in 1926, is part of the Trotting Triple Crown for 3-year-olds. Prior to coming to the Meadowlands, the Hambletonian was presented at five different venues, including a 25-year run at the fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill., that concluded in 1980.
