Charles Whitman, 72, dies

Columbus, OH — Charles R. Whitman, 72, died May 21, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 12, 1940, in Lexington, son of the late Leonard and Marie (Albrecht) Whitman. He and Judith A. Goldschmidt were married Sept. 10, 1966, in Lexington. She died April 24, 2006.

Mr. Whitman was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Cros-Lex Eagles Aerie #4465. He retired as a tool and die maker at Dular, Vassar.

He was a retired 25-year member of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department and was also a former member of the U.S. Trotting Association and Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Mr. Whitman is survived by his sons, Charles B. (Danielle) and Chad D.; brother, Clint (Ida); sister, Barbara (Bob) Perpignon; grandson, Connor; and special friend, Val Campbell. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Hollenbeck.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday (May 24) at Lexington United Methodist Church.
