Racing Roundup: Callahan wins five at Harrah’s Chester

from harness publicists across North America

Sunday’s (April 14) edition of Racing Roundup features results stories from Harrah’s Chester and Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

Callahan wins five at Harrah’s Chester

Chester, PA — Corey Callahan, the nation’s winningest driver, collected five winners at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Sunday and tried the “hula hoop” in between races for the Family Day event.

Callahan started right out of the gate by taking the early Daily Double, winning with Chilli NZ in the first race, paying $7.60 for the win. Chilli NZ won in a time of 1:53.1.

Before the start of the second race, Callahan had the 4-year-old trotting mare Cocktail Attire standing in the winner’s circle. This was an omen to the race, as Cocktail Attire went wire-to-wire in winning in 1:56.1. Cocktail Attire, who had been racing in higher classes at Pocono Downs, got some class relief today and paid $3.00 for the win. The Corey Callahan Daily Double paid $17.80.

Callahan also scored wins in the fourth race with Shark Treasure ($7.40), in the fifth with 3-5 favorite Brickyard Nellie ($3.20) and in the 12th and featured race of the day behind Lindwood Player ($12.60).

Sunday was also Family Day with bean bag toss, horseshoes, hula hoop, face painting and free giveaways between races and also discounts on special food items.

Between the ninth and tenth races on the program, drivers Tim Tetrick, Corey Callahan and David Miller came out trackside and joined the children doing the “hula hoop” and getting their picture taken. Miller tried the hula hoop, but Callahan was the best of them by keeping that hoop spinning around him for more than 10 seconds.

Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Cocoa Beach (Mach Three) moved her win streak to three on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The pacing mare has done nothing but win since the claim last month for trainer Heidi Rohr. Billy Dobson piloted Cocoa Beach, who had the daunting task of starting from post eight on Sunday. She had no trouble completing her hat trick after tipping off cover late before stopping the timer in 1:56.1, a seasonal best. Cocoa Beach earned the winner’s share of the $8,000 purse in the $10,000 claimer for fillies and mares but was claimed out of the race. Dobson had a driving triple on Sunday after a Saturday night in which he piloted five winners on the card.
