NJRC releases drug-test stats; approves single-pool wagering

Freehold, NJ — The New Jersey Racing Commission this week released statistics regarding its equine and human drug-test programs and also approved regulations for single-pool wagering at the state’s Thoroughbred and Standardbred meets.

Frank Zanzuccki, the commission’s executive director, said 286 human drug samples were collected in 2012, with zero positives reported. In 2011, there were 466 samples with one positive.

He said there were 21,341 equine samples collected in 2012, with 14 positives (0.0006 percent). In 2011, there were 26,951 samples with 28 positives (0.001 percent).

A breakdown of the statistics by breed was unavailable.
