Snow can’t stop Miller, Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — It may have been a snowy night in East Rutherford, N.J., but that did little to stop the hot hands of The Buckeye, David Miller. By Thursday night’s end, Miller won five of 10 races on the card at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Miller swept the early double, a sequence that included a very impressive win by Jurgen Hanover, a young trotter with plenty of upside. Jurgen Hanover took back, tracked cover, loomed up three-wide, and stormed home to a seven length victory.

In addition to that popular win, Miller swept both divisions of the Rags To Riches series as Tamayo wore down favored Cambassador to kick off the Late Pick-4, while Hopskipanajump similarly drove past favored Cane Ridge to take the second division.

The snow couldn’t slow down the positive wagering trend at the Meadowlands either. The total handle of $2,092,806 showed an increase of 20 percent over the $1,750,402 wagered on this same Thursday in 2012.

Racing resumes on Friday with the Horse and Groom second round. Post time is 7:15 p.m.
