Kevin Tisher, 77, dies

Columbus, OH — Kevin Tisher, 77, died Jan. 20, 2013.

Mr. Tisher was a longtime owner, trainer and driver on the California harness racing circuit. He raced at Bay Meadows, Hollywood Park, Los Alamitos, Sacramento and his all time favorite, Santa Anita. In his younger years he also raced at Yonkers, Vernon Downs, Syracuse and Sportsman’s Park.

He started his racing career next to his father, Clyde, who also had a long time career in the harness industry.

Mr. Tisher served on the board of directors of the Western Standardbred Association and the California Harness Drivers Guild and was vice president of the California Harness Horse Breeders Association.

His love for horses continued long after his retirement from driving at age 54.

He started Hydro Horse Company in 1990. Still in operation, Hydro Horse has produced underwater treadmill systems for more than 20 years. The treadmill company has supported rehabilitation and exercise systems for both equine hospitals and training centers across the country, as well as international.

Mr. Tisher is survived by his wife, Nell; daughters, Sue and Stacie; and many grandchildren.
