TSM Photo Bugger wins Meadows opening day feature

Washington, PA — Looking like a beaten horse around the final turn, TSM Photo Bugger found renewed life in the stretch to capture Wednesday’s $20,000 Preferred Handicap Trot, the 2013 opening day feature at The Meadows.

Moving first over from fourth, TSM Photo Bugger dueled with the leader, Run And Tell Pap, but appeared spent as the pair turned for home. Under Mike Wilder’s urging, the 6-year-old SJ’s Photo-Rewarding Wink gelding rallied again and downed Run And Tell Pap by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.3. The pocket-sitting Fox Valley Smarty was third.

Jan Fread trains TSM Photo Bugger, who now boasts $233,373 in career earnings, for owner/breeder Ted Tomson.

Brett Miller drove four winners on the 15-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Thursday with first post at 12:55 p.m.

When two trotters with a winning resume met at Dover Downs, Anders Bluestone came out victorious, posting a 1:54 triumph in the week’s top trot, the $23,000 Open Handicap, on a chilly Wednesday. Green Day put a three-race win streak on the line while Anders Bluestone made his first appearance since consecutive early November wins at the track. Driver Ross Wolfenden took no prisoners on the way to the 37th lifetime victory for Anders Bluestone. Humanitarian Ken Wood, currently in West Africa digging wells in Ghana and Tanzania, and Bill Dittmar own the 7-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Annette Hanover, conditioned by Eric Ell, and now on the verge of becoming a $1 million winner with $986,025 in earnings. Gurf closed strongly from far back to finish second in front of early leader Green Day. In the $16,500 Winners Over Trot sub-feature, Daryl Bier drove Richard Pollucci’s Sun Of A Victory, an altered son of Victory Sam-Well Connected, into an early lead and never was contested on the way to a 1:55.2 victory, his 29th career trip to the winner’s circle. Kodak Lindy (Montrell Teague) came on to take second, edging Mandabra (Corey Callahan).
