Kenneth Hughes, 90, dies

Columbus, OH — Kenneth L. Hughes, 90, of New Windsor, Ill., died Dec. 4, 2012, at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.

He was born April 19, 1922, in Griffin, Ill., to Roy and Ada Young Hughes. He attended the local schools and married Colleen Lynn on Dec. 30, 1944, in New Windsor.

Mr. Hughes was a lifetime livestock farmer and owned and raised world class Standardbreds.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, the USTA, Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and Mercer County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed reading and trail riding.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Colleen; daughters, Laurel, Connie Bina and Jean (Lonnie) Daves; son, Grant; six grandchildren; sister, Norma Hines; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Donna Bollbach and Laurel Lindgren.
