Shanghai Phil to stand 2013 season at Kendal Hills Stud Farm

Campbellcroft, ON — Shanghai Phil will stand for a fee of C$2,000 in 2013 at Kendal Hills Stud Farm in Campbellcroft, Ontario.

He is a proven stallion with a very credible performance by his only Ontario crop of 39 foals, 2-year-olds in 2012. He was the leading pacing sire in Quebec for several years.

Shanghai Phil is the sire of Clic K (p,4,1:50.1s-$251,388) and solid racehorses such as Winning Dream (p,3,1:50.3s-$174,007) and Petite Courageuse (p,1:52.2s-$141,767). His 2012 2-year-olds include Duc Dorleans with seven wins, a mark of 1:53.4f and tied for second in Grassroots points for colts and earnings of $101,656; Racey Miss with seven wins and second in Grassroots points for pacing fillies with earnings of $60,987 and a mark of 1:55.1f; and Champagne Phil 1:54.2s, $44,060.

Shanghai Phil, who defeated Rocknroll Hanover twice, winning his elimination for the Breeders Crown as well as in the Nassagewaya, was a multiple Grand Circuit winner, taking a mark of 1:51.2 in winning the International Stallion Stake in Lexington. He also won the Bluegrass Stake from post 10 and the Champlain Stake at Mohawk. He finished third in the Metro at Woodbine, timed in 1:50 to Rocknroll Hanover in his record setting 1:49.4 win, as well as third in the Breeders Crown, while earning $476,907 at two.
