Toronto, ON — Wheeling N Dealin remained undefeated in nine lifetime starts after capturing the $600,000 Breeders Crown 2-year-old colt trot on Saturday night (Oct. 27) at Woodbine.
The Dustin Jones pupil and driver Sylvain Filion got away mid-pack behind Royalty For Life (Tim Tetrick), who clocked the opening panel in :28.
As the field entered the backstretch, elimination winner Wheeling N Dealin was on the move, clearing to the front past the half in :57.3.
Dontyouforgetit (Yannick Gingras), who made a bid for the lead on the final turn, added pressure to the even-money favorite, while clocking three-quarters in 1:26.3. The colt then broke stride in the stretch, which gave Royalty For Life room to attack as he was locked in the pocket.
Wheeling N Dealin was able fend off Royalty For Life to score the lion’s share of the purse by three-quarters of a length, while stopping the clock in 1:56. Murmur Hanover (Mario Baillargeon) got up for third.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked him so far this year,” said Filion. “He’s just amazing. He gave me a little scare on the last turn. He got a little bumpy on me and I had to take a hold of him. But as soon as we hit the stretch he was gone. It feels sweet. It’s just great.”
The son of Cantab Hall-Quick Credit, who also captured the William Wellwood Memorial Trot at Mohawk, now boasts earnings of nearly $700,000 for owner Ecurie Synergie.
Wheeling N Dealin returned $4.20, $2.80 and $2.50, combining with Royalty For Life ($3.90, $3.40) for a $14.60 (2-8) exactor. A 2-8-10 (Murmur Hanover, $11.40 to show) triactor was worth $367.60, while a $1 superfecta (2-8-10-6 — Caveat Emptor) paid $1,508.95.
