Grand Circuit Report: October 23, 2012

This Week: Breeders Crown finals, Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario.

Schedule of events: Grand Circuit action will feature all 12 Breeders Crown finals on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Woodbine. The four 2-year-old events for both sexes and gaits will each race for a purse of $600,000. The 3-year-old colt pace and colt trot will each carry a purse of $555,000, while the events for 3-year-old trotting and pacing fillies will each race for a purse of $500,000. The Open Trot will carry a purse of $600,000, the Open Pace will race for a $500,000 purse, the Mare Pace will go for $331,500 and the Mare Trot will race for $250,000.

Tim Tetrick and Captaintreacherous were in the winner’s circle this past Friday after their Breeders Crown elimination.

Last time: Tim Tetrick led all drivers in Grand Circuit wins last week at Woodbine as he won three of the Breeders Crown eliminations. Tetrick was in victory lane behind Captaintreacherous ($25,000 2-year-old colt pace), American Jewel ($25,000 3-year-old filly pace), and Heston Blue Chip ($25,000 3-year-old colt pace).

Yanick Gingras and Sylvain Filion each drove a pair of $25,000 Breeders Crown elimination winners. Gingras was behind Little Brown Fox (3-year-old colt trot) and Romantic Moment (3-year-old filly pace) and Filion piloted Wheeling N Dealin (2-year-old colt trot) and Intimidate (3-year-old colt trot).

A total of 11 Breeders Crown eliminations were contested in preparation for Saturday’s $6.19 million, 12-race program.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Tim Tetrick continues to extend his lead in the Grand Circuit driving standings as he now has 27 winners in 2012. David Miller remains in second place with 19 victories. Yannick Gingras holds down third place with 18 wins. Dave Palone and Ron Pierce share fourth place, each with 13 victories. John Campbell, Jim Morrill, Jr. and Jimmy Takter are tied for sixth place with eight victories apiece. Brian Sears is in ninth place with seven winners. Andy Miller rounds out the top 10 with six victories in 2012.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit heads to Balmoral Park on Saturday (Nov. 3) with American-National eliminations for 2-year-old colt and filly pacers. A total of eight American-National finals will be contested on Saturday (Nov. 10).
