Pompano Beach, FL — With his 14th win in 15 lifetime starts, Matcan’s bankroll moved past the coveted $100,000 plateau in two years of juvenile state-restricted stakes racing at Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park on Monday night (Oct. 22).

Matcan captured the $24,000 Florida Stallion Stake for sophomore trotting colts on Monday night.

The gelded son of Matchem Hanover, owned by the Fred Monteleone Stable, trotted to a widening eight length victory in 2:00.4 to capture the $24,000 Florida Stallion Stake for male sophomores. Driver-trainer Bruce Ranger, who is aided in the conditioning by second trainer Stewart Nemiro, guided Matcan to nine wins in ten tries in 2011, banking $76,670. Despite a late start to his 2012 campaign, he has now won five consecutive Florida stakes, good for an additional $27,468.

High Speed (Dave Ingraham) was a non-threatening place finisher with Orleans (Rob Hoffman) garnering the show dough.

Three other Florida Stallion Stakes trots were also contested on the same program. In the $25,000 split for 3-year-old fillies the dominant Selena, another Ranger Stable student, swept from off the pace to a solid 1:59.2 score over Pinch Of Thyme (Kevin Wallis) and Beneficiary (Tom Sells).

The winning daughter of Anythings Possible, owned by the DCLD Stables, also sports an impressive current win streak with five straight winner’s circle appearances. Following an unimpressive freshman campaign with just three winless starts, Selena has now captured eight of 11 races in 2012, banking more than $36,000.

Tim T (Sells) was the winner of the $22,550 2-year-old colt trot in a mild upset over Sky Crest (Ranger) and Goucher (Walter Ross, Jr.). The winner has now been in-the-money in all seven lifetime appearances, winning four and earning just under $25,000 for trainer Mike Deters and the partnership of Frederick Morosini, Kenneth Fritz and Michael Prendergast.

The 2-year-old trotting fillies raced for $19,950 in a non-betting event prior to the regular program. Tryree’s Treasure (Ranger) bested Tea Party Express (Mel Turcotte) and Sweet Loreley (Mickey McNichol) in 2:02.2. Trainer Jerry Beach co-owns the daughter of Famously with Hollie Proesel. She has earned $27,825 by winning three of her first four lifetime trips to post.

For the evening, Bruce Ranger won six of 11 races presented, while Dave Ingraham notched three victories.

Racing resumes at Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park on Wednesday night (Oct. 24) with a 7:05 p.m. post time.
