Drivers released from hospital after mishap at Plainridge

Plainridge Racecourse press release

Plainville, MA — Two drivers injured in a mishap at Plainridge Racecourse Thursday afternoon have been released from an area hospital.

Jim Hardy, the track’s leading driver, and Kevin Switzer, Jr., who is among the top drivers in Maine, were both unseated in the homestretch during the running of the third race on the card. After being evaluated both Hardy and Switzer were sent home, extremely sore but miraculously none the worse for wear. The two horses involved, Joe Terror and Rockin Prince, suffered minor scrapes but seemed to be doing fine according to the track veterinarian.

The incident overshadowed an impressive effort by race winner Leap of Faith. His 1:55.4 effort was just a second off the track record for 2-year-old colt pacers, and is the fastest mile by a 2-year-old at Plainridge thus far in 2012.
