Breeders Crown draws 145 entries at Woodbine Racetrack

by Moira Fanning, publicity director, the Hambletonian Society

Cranbury, NJ — Entries for the $6 million Breeders Crown finals had one big surprise as the $2.3 million winning mare Put On A Show was one of 10 pacers entered in the $500,000 Open Pace, a first in Breeders Crown history.

The other nine pacers in alphabetical order are: Aracache Hanover, Bettor Sweet, Foiled Again, Foreclosure N, Golden Receiver, Hypnotic Blue Chip, Razzle Dazzle, Up The Credit and We Will See.

The $600,000 Crown Trot, headlined by Chapter Seven and foreign invitee Commander Crowe, drew just six trotters. Former Crown champ Arch Madness, Hot Shot Blue Chip, Daylon Magician and Mister Herbie will comprise the field.

The following races will go straight to finals: $500,000 2-year-old Filly Trot with 10 entered; $500,000 3-year-old Filly Trot with 11 entered; $331,500 Mare Pace with 11 entered; $500,000 Crown Pace with 10 entered; and the $600,000 Crown Trot with six entered.

All other divisions have eliminations or bye situations. Two-year-old eliminations will be held Friday (Oct. 19) and the sophomore divisions requiring eliminations will race Saturday (Oct. 20). The first five finishers from each elim will advance to the final. Elimination winners may pick their post position.

The $600,000 Breeders Crown Trot will be drawn at a press conference at WEGZ Stadium Club on Tuesday (Oct. 23).

Four freshman Breeders Crown eliminations are carded for Friday (Oct. 19) at Woodbine Racetrack to get the 10 finalists for the $600,000 2-year-old finals on Saturday (Oct. 27).

With 14 entered in the 2-year-old colt pace, two seven-horse elims will go postward with the first five finishers in each elim advancing to the final. All eliminations are $25,000. Elimination winners may pick their post positions. Byes go in the open post position draw.

Only one division — the mare trotters — needed a single elimination on Saturday (Oct. 20) to get to a 10-horse final on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Woodbine Racetrack. The Breeders Crown conditions allow for a single trailer so there will be 11 in the $331,500 Mare Pace, which has been drawn. The $500,000 Open Pace drew 10 and is also finalized.
