Frank Utter, 78, dies

Columbus, OH — Frank C. Utter, 78, of Fowlerville, Mich., died Sept. 11, 2012, at home.

He was born August 26, 1934, to Irving F. and Ethel M. (Jones) Utter and married Ann B. Hillman on Sept. 21, 1957. He graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1952 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Utter owned Utter’s Menswear in Fowlerville for 30 years and was a State Racing Commission steward for 25 years. He was inducted into Michigan’s Harness Racing Hall of Fame this past January.

He was a member of Fowlerville First United Methodist Church, Fowlerville Rotary (past president), Fowlerville Masonic Lodge #164 F & AM (past master), the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association, the USTA, Lansing American Legion, and the DAV.

Mr. Utter is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Philip (Carolyn), Paul (Kristine Brenner), John and Deborah; grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Anthony Allore and Quintin Brenner; sister, Ruth Davis; and special family friends, Alyce Simonson and Suzette Thiessen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 15) at Fowlerville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Thomas Tarpley officiating with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 14) at Niblack Funeral Home, Dillingham Liverance Chapel, Fowlerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fowlerville Rotary Park Fund or the Masonic Lodge Scholarship program.
