Grand Circuit Report: August 21, 2012

This Week: Indiana Downs Grand Circuit, Indiana Downs, Shelbyville, Indiana

Schedule of Events: Indiana Downs will feature Grand Circuit racing on Wednesday (August 22) with the $190,800 Kentuckiana Stallion Management for 2-year-old filly trotters.

Last time: The Grand Circuit action took place in two different locales last week — the Illinois State Fair in Springfield and Harrah’s Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

Stealin The Show was a winner in the Review Stakes for Ryan Anderson.

At Springfield, driver Ryan Anderson won two of the six Review Stakes races. He piloted Stealin The Show in the $16,000 3-year-old filly pace and Happilyeverfaster in the $16,000 2-year-old filly pace.

The other Review Stakes winners were Dreams Of Thunder (Dave Magee) in the $37,000 2-year-old colt/filly trot; Aunt Mel (Marcus Miller) in the $32,000 3-year-old colt/filly trot; Rollnlikeabigshot (Dale Hiteman) in the $26,000 3-year-old colt pace; and Latest Desire (Todd Warren) in the $22,000 2-year-old colt pace.

Yannick Gingras had a big day in Grand Circuit action at Harrah’s Philadelphia as he captured two of the afternoon’s biggest stakes. Gingras won the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine for 3-year-old colt pacers with A Rocknroll Dance and the $350,000 Valley Forge for 3-year-old filly pacers with Romantic Moment.

Also at Harrah’s Philadelphia, Corey Callahan piloted Googoo Gaagaa to victory lane in the $500,000 Colonial for 3-year-old colt trotters.

Grand Circuit racing scheduled for the Indiana State Fair last week was cancelled due to rain.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: David Miller continues to lead in the Grand Circuit driving standings with 13 winners. Tim Tetrick is in second place with 10 victories. Dave Palone checks in third with eight winners. Yannick Gingras, Ron Pierce and Jimmy Takter share fourth place, each with seven victories. Matt Kakaley, Jim Morrill, Jr. and Ray Schnittker are tied for seventh place, each with five wins. Tony Hall rounds out the top ten with four victories in 2012.

Looking ahead: Grand Circuit action will resume next week at Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario. The stakes racing will begin on Thursday (August 30) and continue through Saturday (September 8).
