Campbellville, ON — The second round of the Town Pro Pacing Series continued on Monday evening (July 16) at Mohawk with first leg winners Mileys Big World and Unred Hanover once again taking home top honors.

Mileys Big World was a narrow winner for Steve Condren.

Mileys Big World, driven by Hall of Famer Steve Condren, lit up the toteboard at odds of 13-1 as she captured the first C$30,000 division in 1:52.3, a new lifetime best.

The 3-year-old daughter of Cam’s Card Shark was taken off the gate by Condren as Doc’s Hope (Jason Brewer) cleared past Persistent (Scott Zeron) at the opening quarter in :26.4. Doc’s Hope would continue to lead her six rivals past the half in :54.2. As Doc’s Hope marched past three-quarters in 1:23.1, Mileys Big World was positioned fourth on the outside.

Down the stretch, Persistent angled out of the two-hole and matched strides with the tempo-setter, but Mileys Big World was full of pace in deep stretch and scored the narrow win. Persistent finished second by a neck with Rock Concert (Chris Christoforou) completing the triactor.

“I thought I was in a little tougher tonight than last week,” Condren said following the win. “The two horses I beat at the wire were the two best horses in the race, in my opinion, and tonight it worked out in my favor.”

Trained and co-owned by Murray Brethour along with Donald Varcoe, Mileys Big World increased her bankroll to $69,296. She boasts a record of 4-3-1 from 11 starts this season. Mileys Big World paid $29.30 to win.

Unred Hanover won the second division in a time of 1:52.

Unred Hanover and Paul MacDonell scored a comfortable victory in the second and final split in 1:52.

The 1-5 favorite went gate-to-wire through panels of :27.3, :55.3 and 1:23.3, before unleashing a :28.2 final quarter to seal the victory by two lengths. Lil Miss Bourbon (Randy Waples) came from off the pace to finish second with Taras Jet (Scott Zeron) third after a pocket trip.

“She’s come along nicely right from the get-go,” MacDonell said after the win. “She won her first few starts quite handily and she’s about as nice as a filly can be right now. She gets wondering a little bit on the front, which is why I think she’s better chasing down horses, but when I get the ear plugs and got her attention, she hit a new gear.”

Travis Umphrey trains and co-owns the five-time winner with Terry Hamilton and Shir Win Racing Stable. Unraced as a rookie, Unred Hanover has crafted a 5-3-0 record from eight starts this season. The daughter of Western Ideal increased her bankroll to $66,818. Unred Hanover returned $2.50 to win.
