Hamburg, NY — Family and friends gathered on Sunday (July 15) to honor one of the most respected horsemen in western New York over the last 50 years.

The Upstate New York Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association, in conjunction with the Buffalo Trotting Association, presented the Excelsior Crystal Award to Gary Gregory to commemorate his induction into the UNY Harness Racing Hall of Fame.

After Buffalo Raceway provided a special catered dinner, Gregory was feted in the winner’s circle at the conclusion of a race named on his behalf. Track announcer Gabe Prewitt narrated a tribute to him while the fans trackside gathered at the rail to applaud his many accomplishments. Gregory was then congratulated by many of those fans on his way back from the track.

Gary Gregory’s portrait will join those of the 21 inductees already on the wall in the permanent home of the Hall at Tioga Downs in Nichols, N.Y.
