NY Yankees wins Meadows F&M pace; Palone magic no. 8

by Evan Pattak, for the Meadows

Washington, PA — Stuck with post nine, NY Yankees looked indeed like a “Bronx Bomber” as she moved once for early position, then again for the lead in capturing Monday’s (July 2) $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Dave Palone piloted NY Yankees and concluded the Monday card with a pair of wins. That lowered to eight his magic number to break Herve Filion’s North American career victory record of 15,180. Palone has 14 scheduled assignments on Tuesday’s card, which gets underway at 12:55 p.m.

After her early burst carried her to the three hole, NY Yankees was out again at the quarter. She had enough left to thwart the Lightning Lane charge of Virtuous Western and down her by a neck in 1:51.2, a career best. My Drag Queen finished third.

Ron Burke trains NY Yankees, a 4-year-old daughter of The Panderosa-Pan Yankees who now boasts $174,408 in lifetime earnings, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

Brett Miller drove four winners and Mike Wilder three on the 16-race program.
