Northfield to host Ohio Sires Stakes freshman fillies on July 3

Northfield, OH — On Tuesday (July 3), Northfield Park offers guests the opportunity to start their holiday off right with stakes racing action on the track and concession specials trackside. Fans will see four divisions of Ohio Sire Stakes racing action as part of Tuesday’s 12-race program.

Freshman filly trotters will start Tuesday’s show in race one for the $16,900 first division. Contessa Leigh (Full Count-Howl-Overcomer) is the morning line favorite for owners G&B Racing and Patricia Wollam. Northfield Park Wall of Fame inductee Marty Wollam is the filly’s trainer and driver. Contessa Leigh makes her first lifetime start, but shows two qualifying efforts at The Meadows, the fastest being timed in 2:00.4. Contessa Leigh will start from post one. Completing the first division will be Diplomats Mistress, Trainer Dunn, MJ’s Victory Wish, Mamie’snightmare and Look At Count.

Race three will be the $16,900 second division for 2-year-old filly trotters. Local trainer Ray Crawford will start Royal Fricassee (Royal Strength-Fricassee-Lucky Almahurst) as the lukewarm morning line favorite. Royal Fricassee starts from post six and faces five other rivals, all of which are making their first lifetime starts. Robin Miller is scheduled to drive for owners Suanne Kochilla, June Crawford, Raymond Crawford and Richard Hann. Lady’s Starlett, Whizzy Izzy, Lindas Diamond Lil, Pinehill Lady and Sheza Lavec complete the line-up.

Freshman filly pacers will take to the stage in race seven in the $18,500 first division of the Ohio Sire Stakes. Cating Around (Feelin Friskie-Little Star-Cam’s Magic Trick) is the morning line favorite for owners Jennifer Brown, Gary Cook and Timothy Lane. Chris Page has been named to drive by trainer Brian Brown. Cating Around has two qualifying lines from Scioto Downs, both sub 2:00 miles with last quarters in :27. Cating Around starts from post six in a field that consists of Two Friskie, One Naughty Lady, Igottafeelinfran, Happy N Memphis, Pink Camo, Hawk’s Cry Believe, Friskie Town and Cheat Sheet.

Race nine will host the final Ohio Sire Stakes race of the evening with the $18,500 second division for 2-year-old filly pacers. CG’s Serious (Pine Valley-CG Fire-Cambest) ships in from Chicago with trainer/driver John Roberts. This filly has raced one time, finishing second, beaten by a head, at Chicago’s Balmoral Park. CG’s Serious starts from post three in a talented field consisting of Lovintouchinfeelin, Sassy Two Sox, Forever La Nigh, Always D Lady, Stylish Dapper, Ideal Summer and Norma Jean.

For delicious holiday food fare, enjoy the concession specials offered trackside. Guests can choose among a barbecued pork sandwich, super dog or a Guinness Brat. Each $4 selection comes with a complimentary 20 oz. Pepsi. Or try one of our Miller or Labatt beer specials for $3. Post time is 7 p.m.
