Historic Stakes produce two track records at Tioga

by Dustin Ross, Regional Racing Operations Manager, Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — The Historic Stakes rolled into Tioga Downs on Sunday afternoon (June 17) and produced two track records.

Heston Blue Chip won the 3-year-old colt pace in a track record 1:49.2.

In the first non-wagering event a field of four sophomore colt pacers went to the post for a purse of $55,688 with Heston Blue Chip, a perfect two-for-two thus far in 2012, leading the way.

Regular pilot Tim Tetrick made the trip to drive Heston Blue Chip and the duo couldn’t have made it look any easier. The son of American Ideal–Shot Togo Bluechip cruised to victory in 1:49.2, a lifetime mark and a track record for 3-year-old colt pacers.

“He is such a nice horse and this was a great training mile for him,” said owner Ken Jacobs in the winner’s circle following the victory. “He is staked to everything from here on out, but the Meadowlands Pace is the one that I am looking towards and the one that I would really like to win. He isn’t going to Vernon on Friday for the sire stakes leg, it’s just too much with travel and everything so close, so his next start will be at Yonkers.”

Can’t Have My Moni was a narrow winner in a track record of 1:54.2.

In a $34,695 division of the Historic for 3-year-old filly trotters, Tetrick once again penciled his name next to a new track record, this time with Can’t Have My Moni.

The daughter of Cantab Hall–Moni Maker sat the pocket trip behind Cowgirl Hall (Gates Brunet) through fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:25.2. Down the lane it looked as though Cowgirl Hall was going to hold off the challenger, but she was nailed right on the wire by Can’t Have My Moni and Tetrick in a time of 1:54.2.

Southwind Moni (David Miller) won the $35,445 first division for 3-year-old filly trotters in 1:55.4.

Dream Of Winning (Brett Miller) captured the $69,488 Historic for 3-year-old filly pacers in 1:52. Coraggioso (Phil Fluet) won the $63,489 Historic for 3-year-old colt trotters in 1:54.3.

Tioga Downs continues live racing on Monday (June 18), with a post time of 6:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.tiogadowns.com.
