American Jewel won the Fan Hanover in a world record time of 1:48.2.
The Jimmy Takter-trained and Tim Tetrick-driven daughter of American Ideal-Trim Hanover led her nine rivals from start to finish as she marched past fractions of :26.2, :55 and 1:21.3, before edging away in deep stretch to win by one length. Stablemate Romantic Moment (Yannick Gingras) finished second, with Big McDeal (Jody Jamieson) third.
“She did a lot of work tonight; she was right on the front and worked hard to get there. She’s just an awesome filly, my favorite, and she can carry her speed a long, long way,” Tetrick said following the race.
“I wanted to have the four hole because she likes to be able to float out of there and get positioned. She’s such a high-speed filly that you don’t want her locked in. I wanted to give her every chance possible to win tonight.”
Bred and owned by Brittany Farms, American Jewel, last year’s 2-year-old filly of the year in Canada, increased her bankroll to C$1,016,313. She paid $3.70 to win.
