Antoniades’ Picks: May 2 BmlP

by Michael Antoniades, Balmoral Park racing analyst

Michael Antoniades offers his picks for the $50,000 High 5 at Balmoral Park on May 2, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park High 5, Race 10, Wednesday, May 2, 2012

.10 play: 4610/46710/467810/2467810/ALL = $48.60

Analysis:

(10) Rosalie’s Smile: Sharpest form but potential problems from out here. She has won her last two on the engine and if she makes the front in decent shape she could win her third straight. Likely speed from several others could derail that plan but she is still the one to beat.

(4) Sport N Lady: Post advantage on most of her main rivals tonight. She misses four weeks in action and that is a major handicapping factor. Very capable from this spot if she is ready. Red hot Marcus Miller has a UDR of .304, only one point behind Balmoral leader Mike Oosting.

(6) Sassy Chassee: She is my selection and hoping that she leaves out of there. Parked on the last turn and was not traveling that well before the break. I believe if she gets a spot toward the front and UDR leader Oosting (.305) gets her a rail trip she will be much better tonight.

(7) Judy’s Jet: One of several potential leavers that can win this race. Solid form for the last month and you can forgive her seventh place finish two back when she paced the second quarter in under :27 and exhausted herself.

(8) Maranatha Hanover: Another lass with consistent early speed and that will come in handy tonight. Driver Roberts can certainly create gate speed and get this consistent check getter into position. A two or three hole trip would be ideal.

(2) Tune In: She has been pretty ordinary in her last two coming off a small layoff. I know that she has more ability than she has shown and with the post shift tonight maybe she can wake up at an inflated price. A definite question mark.

(1) Maladar: Another question mark. Sensational effort three back at odds of 31-1 and has bounced badly in the last two. The rail certainly enhances her chances of hitting this ticket at generous odds if she can return to form.

(9) Annie In Flight: Standard handicaaping logic here. She was three wide in a needed start and her mark of 1:55.1 was taken at Balmoral last year and she should improve second start off the bench. That being said she more than likely is coming from last. A hot pace would really help.

(3) Candee All Day: Her third start back and had no chance three wide off slow fractions in her last start. If you get a hot pace and she can hit the ticket at huge odds it will inflate the payout considerably.

(5) Miss Pat Weisar: Same story as the above. The faster the fractions the more likely she can be a part of this High 5 ticket at a big price. Shows a :26.4 final quarter in her last start.
