Hollywood Rusty in surprise victory at Dover Downs

Dover, DE — With two starters boasting win streaks, Hollywood Rusty pulled a mild surprise, scoring a 1:57.3 victory in the $16,000 winners over trot on Thursday at Dover Downs. Matt Kakaley had a six pack of winners.

Hollywood Rusty was a 1:57.3 winner in the winners over trot.

Brad Hanners drove Hollywood Rusty into the lead and led the remaining eight square-gaiters the rest of the way to his first win of 2012. The Andover Hall-Aurora Hall gelding profited when the race favorite Outlaw (Matt Kakaley), a winner of four of five previous lifetime races, sustained an ankle injury and was never a factor. The 4-year-old finished out of the money.

Hanners drove Hollywood Rusty to his personal best of 1:57.3. Do It For Annie was second in front of City Kid.

In addition to Matt Kakaley’s six winners, Vic Kirby won the daily double and later added another for a driving triple. Steve LeBlanc posted a training double.
