Matt Kakaley drove Tagyoureit Hanover to victory in the Mares Open Trot on Wednesday at Dover Downs.

Matt Kakaley catch-drove the Andover Hall-Tags Sweetie gelding for red-hot trainer Eric Ell and owners Gorden, Rekoon, Goldberg and Ken Wood. Kakaley moved Tagyoureit Hanover three-wide after the three-quarters and chopped down the leaders to score a 1:55 victory in the week’s top trot. The Budster (Ron Pierce) rolled out of post 8 at the start to assume the lead in front of the grandstand and led the way until deep stretch when confronted by a convoy of challengers nearing the finish line. The Budster held on for second. Last week’s winner, Allmar Surprise (Vic Kirby) finished third.

Matt Kakaley and Ross Wolfenden completed the card with four winning drives. Meet leader Corey Callahan had three wins while Brad Hanners had two wins. Eric Ell and Joe Hundertfund had training doubles.

Before they went to post for the weekly trotting feature at Monticello Raceway, the Wednesday afternoon race appeared to be very competitive, perhaps because post positions were assigned by the racing secretary. Whether that was the redeeming factor or not, the contest was one of the best of the season with five horses across the track at the wire and literally only one-fifth of a second separated them.
When the photo finish camera snapped, Get Chipped, who was rallying from sixth at the top of the stretch, zoomed by his opponents just 50 yards from the finish to score a 2:02.3 victory for driver Jimmy Taggart, Jr. The next four finishers were separated by noses with My Cool Breeze and Mike Merton taking down the place money and pacesetter Samsawinner finishing a very close third for Jimmy Marohn. SF Sure Thing and Rick Harp were another nose back in fourth place while My Buddy Chimo (Jimmy Marohn, Jr.) was another nose back in fifth place. Get Chipped is trained by Gary Messenger for owners Dr. Scott Leaf and Kenneth Weckstein. He paid $7.20 for win.
