Lou Guida’s Italian mare Lisa America has raced for the last time. She ended her racing career this past Sunday afternoon (Jan. 29) by finishing last in the Prix d’Amerique.

Lisa America returned to the stable lame and was closely examined the next day, where the vet found that some old issues in her fetlocks were to blame for the lameless.

“That’s not a big deal, but we think enough is enough, and have therefore decided to call it a day for her,” trainer Jerry Riordan said.

Lisa America raced 65 times in her career, winning 22 races. In 2010 she won the European Grand Circuit series. She is the top offspring of world champion Varenne as she has earnings of $1.9 million and a mark of 1:52.4.

It was earlier reported that the Swedish trainer Lutfi Kolgjini had bought Lisa America, which Lou Guida denied at the time. However, it appears that the deal is still on and could be finished by the end of the week.
