Broadies Song, Mainland Key N win twin features at Dover

Dover, DE — Broadies Song became the season’s fastest gelding over a five-eighths-mile oval, while Mainland Key N won his second Preferred in three weeks to highlight the weekly $30,000 features on Monday at Dover Downs.

Broadies Song was a 1:50 winner in the Delaware Speical.

David Miller made good use of starting from the inside with Broadies Song, taking the lead after the quarter and then fought off Cams Art and Ron Pierce on the final turn to roll away in the stretch for a 1:50 triumph, the fastest for an older gelding pacer in early 2012.

A recent acquisition by Dorothy Parker, Chasing Paper and trainer Josh Green, Broadies Song won for the second straight week in the Delaware Special. The Camluck-Hawaiian Dancer 5-year-old gelding was followed by Highbeam Rusty N, with Matt Kakaley, nipping Cams Art for second-place money. Broadies Song is now a $331,249 lifetime winner.

Mainland Key N won the $30,000 Preferred-Open for the second time in three weeks as Tim Tetrick posted a 1:51.4 victory behind the Shiney Key-Eastwood Bluejeans veteran gelding, trained by Peter Tritton for owner Harry von Knoblauch. Dirty Devil and Matt Kakaley came on for second in front of Jeremy’s Successor and Sean Bier.

The Meadows
Trotslikethewind did just that Monday at The Meadows, capturing the $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot in 1:55.2, equaling the fastest mile this year by an older mare on a five-eighths-mile track. Parked the opening quarter, Trotslikethewind tolerated no challenges once she reached the front, getting the back half in a sparkling :56.4 for Tony Hall. She downed Allthatnabagofchip by two lengths while Peggy’s Laughter was a ground-saving third. Andy Rickert owns and trains Trotslikethewind, a 7-year-old daughter of Pegasus Spur-Familiar Goal who extended her career bankroll to $172,490. Eric Ledford, Dave Palone and Hall each drove three winners on the 15-race card.

Monticello Raceway
Quietly, Sand E Fiftyfive has been winning races and her triumph on Monday at Monticello Raceway marked the mare’s seventh victory in a row. Racing for a tag of $6,000 the I Am A Fool 6-year-old was driven to victory by Billy Dobson. Her consecutive string began on Nov. 28 and all her victories were by open lengths except for her 2:00 clocking on Jan. 6 where Sand E Fiftyfive came from behind and eeked-out a nose victory. Owned by Barry Charles, Sand E Fiftyfive defeated McDonna (Stephane Bouchard) by a length in a time of 1:58.4 on the Monday card. She paid $4.30 for win.
