Freehold, NJ — Horses awaiting adoption at the Standardbred Retirement Foundation will benefit from more than $15,000 raised at a golf tournament held Jan. 13 at Palmaire Country Club near Pompano Park by tack shop owners Greg and Lorraine Perry and horseman Fred Grant.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome,” said Grant. “We had 83 golfers supporting us, plus a very generous sponsorship from the Unicorn Foundation. Casie Coleman spent $1,000 to buy a Sidney Crosby Penguins jersey in our auction.

“The Retirement Foundation has been helping the horses that give us a livelihood for over 20 years. We owe them the chance at a useful career after racing and we’re happy this golf event could help.”

The top masters foursome, at one under par, was Chuck Sylvester, Bob Bencal, Fred Grant and Mike Blan.
