Monmouth Park deal completed; Gural receives extension

Columbus, OH — The Asbury Park Press is reporting that New Jersey State officials and representatives of a Thoroughbred horsemen’s group agreed on a deal late Monday to keep Monmouth Park open in 2012.
According to the paper, the horsemen‘s group agreed to a reduction in projected purses for 2012 but won the state’s promise to rebid a lease for the track at more-lucrative purses for future years.
The paper also reported that Jeff Gural, who has a tentative contract to lease Meadowlands Racetrack, has received an extension until Jan. 6 to finalize that agreement because of continuing talks over supplementary revenue.
