Metamucil Mile slated for Nov. 30

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — Tim Tetrick isn’t eligible. Neither is George Brennan or Jason Bartlett. They just don’t fit the criteria. On Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 30), Monticello Raceway will stage its third Metamucil Mile, a race for drivers who are 65 years or older.

“A few seasons ago we had a race for older drivers which we tongue in cheek called the Metamucil Mile and it went over quite well,” said Eric Warner, the track’s director of racing. “Then last season we did it again to the enjoyment of all and recently I’ve been approached about having another race this year and if we can get enough entrants we’ll go with it again.”

Warner pointed out that he has quite a few sexagenarians who race horses at the Mighty M and he figures maybe some may want to don their colors and compete against their peers.

Warner is referring to John Gilmour, Greg Decker and Bubba Washington, but he says there are many others who have competed here this year who may enjoy this spirited competition.

“Even if they haven’t raced here this season, any older driver with a full license can join us for this race if they want to. We can’t go with it if we don’t have enough drivers,” Warner explained.

Warner added that the Metamucil Mile, if it fills, will be on the betting card on Nov. 30.

Any driver, 65 years or older, who might be interested in competing in the Metamucil Mile is urged to contact Warner in the race office at Monticello Raceway by calling 845.794.4100, ext. 557. Or they can call the track’s publicity office at ext. 455.
