FSBOA sale held

from the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association

Pompano Beach, FL — The FSBOA yearling and mixed sale was held on Sunday (Nov. 6).

A total of 43 of the 66 cataloged horses were sold for an average price of $1,443. The 27 yearlings sold at an average price of $1,939.

Sale toppers included hip 33, Prairie Knock Out (Spy Hard-Lady Astra A) at $8,000 to Mary Ann Plano; hip 29, ICU Misty (N Aboriginal-ICU Miss) to Jean Beaulieu for $6,000; and hip 41, Full Of Fame (Full Of Fun-Promise Me Fame) to James Magno for $6,000.

The 2011 sale date was a month earlier than in 2010.

Florida-sired 2- and 3-year-olds are expected to race for approximately $1.2 million in 2012 plus Breeders and Stallion awards. FSBOA expects to develop additional 3-year-old racing opportunities starting in 2012 including the Stallion Stake which will have 3-year-old races. Monies previously earmarked for the Florida Bonus will be reallocated to existing Florida-sired stakes and new stake opportunities.

The Florida-sired program represents a valuable opportunity to race in a program where an average purse per eligible foal ranks with the better sire stakes programs in the United States.
