Wonderous Hanover broke the 2-year-old filly track record by nearly two full seconds Thursday at Harrington Raceway.

The Conway Hall filly set a hot pace after assuming command approaching the quarter mile in 29.3. She sped to the half mile in 58.3 and three-quarters in 1:28.2. She led by double-digit lengths at the top of the stretch and shattered the track record by nearly two full seconds. The old mark was co-held by Westgate Alexis in 2005, Toni’s Wink in 2008 and Alleigh Girl in 2011, who each won in 2:02.4.

The win was the first in five career starts for Wonderous Hanover, who is trained by Crissy Crissman-Bier.

Drivers Roger Plante and Montrell Teague each had three winners on the program. Harrington’s leading trainer, George Teague conditioned three winners.

Vernon Downs
Ocean’s Motion went from last to first before recording a 1:51.3 victory in Thursday night’s $10,000 featured first race at Vernon Downs. Competing against five quick-footed foes in the week’s Open contest for female pacers, Ocean’s Motion ($4.10) was last at the quarter, fifth at the half and fourth entering the final two furlongs. The 4-year-old daughter of Camotion-CR Charisma powered up in the stretch and drew off to win by more than six lengths. Veteran teamster Chuck Connor, Sr. did the steering for his wife, trainer Janice Connor, and owner Robert J. Lovett as the career-winner of more than $126,000 secured her second local score, sixth season’s tally and 13th lifetime victory. Ocean’s Motion’s time bettered her previous win-mark by two-fifths of a second.
Greig Watson’s Play Right and Canouan, shared in ownership by Thomas Eichas and trainer Laurie Stark, each recorded their fifth current Vernon victories during Thursday’s 11-race program, and are now just one tally shy of the meet’s trotting leader, DL Cruiser, with 14 programs remaining in the track’s 90-card campaign.

Plainridge Racecourse
Two Plainridge driver-trainers who go back to when the track opened in March 1999, scored a pair of wins Thursday on a dreary rainy afternoon over the racing strip. Mike Eaton, who is always one of the track’s top drivers, posted wins with Mighty Terry in the second race and Famous Image from post eight in the fifth race. Bonnie Rush lived up to her name with wins behind Dream Cycle in the third and BJ Rory in the nightcap. Her winning ways with Dream Cycle was a typical Rush move. Parked out at the three-quarter pole and sixth heading for home, “she came with a Rush” with her prized trotter and won going away.
