Maryland Sire Stakes for 3-year-olds held at Ocean Downs

Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted the Maryland Sire Stakes for 3-year-olds on Thursday night (July 21).

O’What A Stunner (Cam’s Rocket-Radiant Breeze) came from third at the half to win the 3-year-old filly pace in 1:59 for driver Corey Callahan.

Callahan had a driving double in stakes action, also winning a division of the 3-year-old colt/gelding pace with War Cloud (Cam’s Rocket-Pretty Daring) in 1:57.4.

The other division of the colt/gelding pace went to Modern Day Clyde (Bonnie And Clyde-Ashlee Lyn), driven by Jeff Fout for Winbak Farm. Time for the mile was 1:58.2.

In trotting action, two divisions of the colt/geldings went to post. Rukeyser (You Betcha-Hollins Queen) went wire-to-wire in 2:02.1 for pilot Jim Morand in an early non-wagering event and August Rush (Wonder Dancer-Brown Wrapper) caught the front runner in mid stretch to win the other division in 2:03.2 with Kim Vincent in the bike.

My Baby Momma (Tejano-Kora’s Trotter) set a Sire Stakes record at Ocean Downs for the 3-year-old filly trotters, crossing the wire in 2:01.2 for Jonathan Roberts.

Maryland Sire Stakes ‘Summer Showdown” action will send the 2-year-olds to post on Wednesday (July 27) with each final race going for a purse of $25,000. The 3-year-olds will take to the track on Thursday (July 28) with the purses also at $25,000.
