Mark Jones wins big on Back to the Track night at Hazel

by Patricia Miller, for GLADA

Hazel Park, MI — Maybe it was the full moon, maybe the large excited crowd, or maybe it was just another fine race for multiple-winner Mark Jones, driving his trotter Classic Spur to victory. This incredible winning duo raced to the finish line in 2:00.2 in the GLADA competition on Back to the Track night (July 15) at Hazel Park.

Not far off was driver Robert Miller with Miss Tiger Lily for the place dough, and driver Rory Moore with his own Perfect Scam took the show honors.

The hot handed field of nine amateurs ripped away from the gate and raced on to the quarter in :29.3 where Classic Spur grabbed the lead and never looked back on his way to the gold ring. Vestals Crown driven by Steve Oldford raced in second and Robert Miller piloted Miss Tiger Lily in third.

As the half time of :59.4 lit the board, the field continued to roll in formation, heading down the backstretch to the final turn where the best efforts of each driver urged the field on.

Classic Spur dominated as he has many times this summer while Perfect Scam and Miss Tiger Lilly fought it out in a close stretch battle. Vestals Crown tried hard to catch Perfect Scam and almost did, finishing fourth.

The competition continues and the drivers are eager to enter the next race to improve their points for season-end honors.
