Monticello to offer trip to Jug on ‘Back to the Track’ Sunday

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — On Sunday, July 17, Monticello Raceway will have an added race card to coincide with the industry wide “Back to the Track” weekend.

A fun afternoon is planned with hopes of bringing back some of the former faithful and entertainment and enticements will hopefully help support interest in that racing program.

Howard Oil, the track’s race caller, will announce the races from the winner’s circle and outstanding handicapper Catskill Steve will be with Oil, only his objective will be to pick winners for the attending fans. It’ll be a good chance to meet both gentlemen up close and personal.

All attending fans on Sunday will have a chance to win an all-expense paid trip for two to the 2011 world famous Little Brown Jug in Delaware, Ohio. That trip includes round trip airfare for two to Columbus, Ohio; accommodations for two nights at the Columbus Airport Marriot; motor coach transportation to the Delaware Fairgrounds and two VIP Pavilion Tent passes on Jug Day, September 22.

“It’ll be an extra special Little Brown Jug this year because there’s a great possibility that fans will see the great New York-bred filly, See You At Peelers, become only the second filly to win that prestigious stakes race since its inception in 1946,” said Shawn Wiles, the track’s assistant general manager.

Adding to the festivities that day will be free live racing programs; food and drink specials; buffet dinner giveaways; and drawings for rides in the starting gate.

Admission to the track is free and all attendees will have a chance to partake of the amenities offered. Post time for the first race will be at 12:50 p.m.
