Driver/trainer Robert Williams III dies in accident

from the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Assn.

Okemos, MI — It’s with deep sadness that we report the death of Robert “RJ” Williams III.

He died in a single vehicle accident near Leslie Wednesday afternoon (June 1) on his way to pick up grain. According to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department, RJ’s pick-up left the roadway at approximately 4:15 p.m. and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 26-year-old driver/trainer from Florida moved to Michigan about a year ago and had been working at his aunt’s (Krista Williams) stable near Jackson. RJ’s easy-going style and positive attitude was a welcome addition to the backstretch and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

RJ’s parents and grandparents are long-time horsemen with strong Michigan roots. Our sincere condolances to RJ’s family and friends.

Arrangements have not been announced.
