Scholarships available on Monticello’s All-Amateur Day

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Montcello, NY — When Monticello Raceway presents its first-ever All-Amateur Day at the Races on Sunday afternoon, June 12, besides showcasing the talents of amateur drivers the day will serve as a fundraiser to help provide scholarships for individuals pursuing higher education related to the harness racing industry.

“Our equine scholarship fund provides assistance for any individual in the harness racing community — their children and/or family members — in pursuit of higher education,” noted David Yarock, an avid amateur driver and the president of both the Donald Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Edward Weiner and Edward Yarock Equine Scholarship Fund. “Now in our fifth year our goal is to expand the fund in order to assist as many students as possible.

“The future of the harness industry is dependent upon young educated people becoming a part of it and we hope to play an integral role by providing this financial assistance,” Yarock added.

On June 12 the scholarships will be awarded as part of a racing program that will include a great day of fun, food and drinks while enjoying the excitement of harness racing, slot machines and clean mountain air.

Applications for scholarships are now available at www.equinescholarship.com but they must be filed before May 30.
