East Rutherford, NJ — Some Girls Do took a winning step toward her next series title in the $16,000 first leg of the Night Styles Series on Thursday night (March 17) at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Fax Me defeated Elegant Girl by a neck in their Night Styles division.

The 3-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Village Green held off Only The World by a half-length to win the fifth race, the first of the evening’s two divisions, in 1:52.1. Brian Sears was in the sulky.

Trained by Ron Burke, Some Girls Do swept both legs and the $49,000 final of the Tender Loving Care Series last month. She has won five of six starts this season for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Frank Baldachino and Earl Smith.

Fax Me dug in for a narrow victory over Elegant Girl in the second Night Styles division. Tim Tetrick piloted the Jim Eaton trainee to a career best 1:52.4 clocking. Bred and owned by Brett Wilfong and Lynn Wilfong, the 4-year-old daughter of Cape Crusader-Falcon Crest has now won five of eight starts this year.

Mystery Photo scored in 1:54 in his Horse and Groom division.

Mystery Photo rebounded from a miscue the week prior to win his $20,000 division of the Horse and Groom Series. The 4-year-old son of SJ’s Photo-Enchanted Victory trotted to a career best 1:54 for the husband and wife team of driver Andy Miller and trainer Julie Miller. Erv Miller, William Gregg and David and John Prushnok own Mystery Photo, who was second in his Hambletonian elimination last year.

After his three-race streak was snapped last week, Pompano invader Southwind Vavoom narrowly redeemed himself in the second Horse and Groom split. Driven by Bob McClure, Southwind Vavoom held off Don’t Know Chip by a head for a 1:54.3 score. The 5-year-old son of Self Possessed-Vie Agra Works is owned by John McClure.

The finals of the Night Styles and Horse and Groom will be contested next Thursday, March 24.
