Seven new nominees for Northfield’s Wall of Fame

Northfield, OH — After six weeks of public input, Northfield’s Wall of Fame trustees have added seven new nominees to the triennial Wall of Fame ballot.

The late Elmer Moody, longtime Northfield security chief; three-time driving champ Greg Grismore; and stalwart trainers Marty Wollam and Tye Loy made the final cut, along with 2002 Northfield Horse of the Year Cam’s Valentine; Canadian Hall of Famer Dream Of Glory, who was undefeated in five Northfield starts; and two-time Battle of Lake Erie champ Maltese Artist.

They join nine nominees carried over from 2008 based on their previous vote totals.

Each living Wall of Fame member, along with each trustee, receives a ballot, and may vote for up to four inductees. The top four vote-getters are named to the Wall, with the proviso that at least one horse and one human must be enshrined in each election.

Honorees will be announced in early March and will be formally inducted at the Wall of Fame dinner on Thursday, April 7.

The Wall of Fame dinner honors far more than the Wall inductees. Northfield will also salute distinguished owner Bill Sanders, whose “Sand” horses include 2010 Courageous Lady champ Sand Windsor and Ohio Sire Stakes champs Sand Squaw and Sand Bouncer; Charlotte “Cookie” Hillen, the track’s backstretch security supervisor, in her 21st year at Northfield, who won the John Lee Good Fellowship Award for her work as liaison with Northfield’s horsemen; and Lori Hamlet, who was named Caretaker of the Year for her efforts working with her husband, trainer Eric Hamlet. In addition to caring for a number of horses owned by Wall of Famer Jerry Osborne, Lori is an owner herself, campaigning Liftoff Bayama.

Also set for honors April 7 is Horse of the Year Delivered Rules, who beat out Shelbys Muneymaker for the title. Delivered Rules raced 42 times at Northfield in 2010, winning eight times and posting 29 on the board finishes, nearly all against Open competition. He earned $42,933 of his $47,952 locally, taking a local mark of 1:53.2 while also winning at Indiana Downs in 1:51.2. Charles O’Neal of Oakwood Village owns the 7-year-old Signed N Delivered stallion.
