Barnard gives update on St Elmo Hero

from the Meadowlands Media Relations Department

East Rutherford, NJ — Undefeated pacing sensation St Elmo Hero is taking a well-deserved breather after stretching his winning streak to 23 in the $65,000 Complex Series Final on Jan. 29 at the Meadowlands.

“St Elmo Hero is doing very well,” owner John Barnard reported on Tuesday. “He’s back in Illinois and jogging every day. We just want to keep him loosened up. We had scheduled time off for him.

“The time off doesn’t really hurt him. He can stay in good condition by training, and he’s had some breaks of 20 days or so between races in the past.

“The Cam Fella Series starts March 5 at Woodbine. I don’t know if we’ll race him once more at the Meadowlands before that. We’ll make a decision in the next few weeks based on how he trains. We’re looking for a race at the Big M, something that makes sense. We might do that because we don’t want to lay him off the entire month of February. He looks like he enjoyed the Meadowlands, and I know a lot of people are asking about him.”
