Tuesday’s (Feb. 1) edition of Racing Roundup features results stories from The Meadows and Dover Downs.

Action-Broadway wins Meadows trot on weather-shortened card

Washington, PA — A leisurely fifth at the half, Action-Broadway unleashed a powerful uncovered bid that propelled her to the lead and on to victory in the $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot, the feature on the Tuesday card at The Meadows shortened by worsening track conditions.

Sent off the 4-5 favorite, Action-Broadway idled 5-1/2 lengths back before Dave Palone moved her off the cones. She gobbled up the leader, Pilgrims Stunner, and cruised home to down that rival by three lengths in 1:57.1. A trapped-in Digital Pix was a rallying third.

Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains Action-Broadway, a 4-year-old daughter of Broadway Hall-Photo With Molly, whose average per-start earnings now exceed $11,228 through 32 career outings, for Ken Sommer.

While The Meadows was spared the brunt of the storm that targeted much of the Midwest and East, the track absorbed enough “wintry mix” to be rated “sloppy” from the outset. As track conditions deteriorated and threatened the safety of drivers and horses, The Meadows canceled races eight through 15.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday with first post at 6:55 p.m.

Dover Downs
Fast-closing Alice’s Restaurant needed only one call, at the finish line, to win the $26,000 Mares Open Pace at 10-1 odds on a fog-shrouded Tuesday at Dover Downs.
Corey Callahan bided his time as High Seed Life (Matt Kakaley) cut out the pace. In the stretch four starters converged on the leader and approaching the wire Alice’s Restaurant zipped past them all to win the week’s top distaff event in 1:53. High Life Speed held on to finish second with Spoiled Beach (Tony Morgan) third. Race favorite Wish All You Want (Eric Goodell) had to be content to finish fourth. Veteran horseman Tony Domino trains and co-owns Alice’s Restaurant with Richard Lester. The victory by the Western Ideal-Alice Alice half sister to the $1.5 million winner Western Ace is her first of the New Year, raising her lifetime earnings to $360,673.
