Beware of this pacing mare at Cal Expo

Sacramento, CA — She’s affectionately known as Princess BB Bug, has Tweedys hanging from her halter in the paddock and occasionally talks to her owner via cell phone.

We know her better as Bewareofthisaffair, who is coming off the biggest win of her career in the Kaycess Doll series final for owner/breeder Wendi Wiener, trainer Nathalie Tremblay and driver James Kennedy.

Off at 6-1 in that contest, Kennedy was able to work out a perfect pocket journey with the daughter of Hi Ho Silverheel’s, she ignited when the question was asked in the stretch and motored away to a 1-1/4 length victory over the sloppy track.

“That win represents a lot of hard work and love from everybody,” Wiener noted. “I cried happy tears and continue to smile as I replay the race in my head. This was her biggest race ever and it went perfectly.”

You quickly get the impression that Bewareofthisaffair is something special to her owner.

“She’s my heart and my soul, and we have a connection that I can’t explain,” Wiener continued. “She’s only getting better and better and now she’s getting the chance to prove what she can do.”

Bewareofthisaffair is a sister to Mamahaswhiskerstoo, who is retiring to become a mother, as well as a sibling to Cold Affair and Bananananafoe.

“She’s taken after Cold Affair, who loved the mud when he was racing.”

Wiener makes sure that the credit is given where deserved when it comes to that last victory.

“I can’t say enough good things about her trainer Nat, and James fits this mare like a glove and she really responds for him. Chuckie and Stretchie are also very special grooms and we’d be in trouble without them, and also Dave Kuri for always being there.”

Live racing resumes at Cal Expo on Thursday (Dec. 30) and continues through Saturday (Jan. 1). Post time on Thursday is 5:30 p.m. (PST). A special New Year’s Eve post time on Friday (Dec. 31) is at 3:40 p.m. Post time on Saturday is at 6 p.m.
