Roy Williams Sr., 73, dies

Columbus, OH — Roy E. Williams, Sr., 73, of Manalapan, N.J., died Dec. 13, 2010.

Mr. Williams was born in Millen, Georgia. He was an owner, trainer and driver of Standardbreds for more than 40 years. His favorite horse was Rommel p,1:49.3 ($423,297), a son of Walton Hanover that he purchased as a 2-year-old and campaigned for nearly six years.

He is survived by his wife, Fawn Howeth Williams; sons, Roy Jr. (Janet) and Christopher; daughters, Caroline and Rhonda (Donald) Wall; stepsons, Robert Howeth and Jeffery (Olga) Oross; brothers, Arnold, W.T., Kenny and Terry; sisters, Peggy Becton, Betty Crosby, Lorene Blackburn and Gloria Martin; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Higgins Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, N.J., on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, at the First Baptist Chuch in Freehold.

Memorial contributions may be made to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J.
