Dismissed at 7-1, Rock DJ scored in a career best 1:57.2.

Dismissed at 7-1, Rock DJ was competing in only his third ever Open on Friday night trying to improve upon two third place finishes in his first two cracks at the $16,500 feature.

The John Mongeon trainee stayed inside and out trotted front-running Jolie’s Prayer (Jim Devaux) and pocket-sitting Battleshoe Victor (Brian Cross) while coming on to win it in a career best 1:57.2. Scott Mongeon was in the bike for the fifth of the season for the 5-year-old Credit Winner gelding who is owned by Charles Barbarulo of Schenectady, NY and the Misfit Stable of Latham, NY.

Driver Jim Devaux was the star of the night as he piloted four winners to go with another pair of second place finishes on the trotting heavy program.

The Meadows
Idol gobbled up the field with a powerful first-over move that carried her to a facile victory in Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows. Earlier this year, Idol blazed a mile in 1:50, equaling the fastest ever by a distaff pacer at The Meadows. She wasn’t quite as fast Friday, but when Brett Miller moved her from fourth, she overwhelmed The Assassinator on the lead and drew off to score in 1:53.4. Cams Van Go rallied from ninth at 37-1 to finish second, 3 lengths back, while Diva Delight completed the trifecta. Jim Pollock, Jr., trains Idol, a 4-year-old daughter of Sharky Spur-Beam Of Joy who has captured 12 of 40 career starts, for Stephen Richard.

Cal-Expo
A mixture of conditioned and claiming trotters, racing for a purse of $4,300, were featured at Cal Expo on Friday night (December 10), on which Putoneonnetformom scored. Holding firm under minor urging, the 6-year-old won ($5.80) by 1-3/4 lengths. Bred and owned by Jeff, Gerald & Diana Cimini, Putoneonnetformom stopped the timer at 2:00. Meringue surged at the wire to finish in second, and Jam And Jelly raced improved while one-length farther back, in third.
